A Plan!

So, my original plan for this blog was to document the addition to our household of an angora rabbit (probably of mixed German/English descent, for fine, high-production fiber). Unfortunately, a healthy dose of reality checking has resulted in my decision not to pursue the addition of another pet to our family (my husband and I currently have three cats – not big on producing fiber, but BIG on producing vet bills…). So this blog will take another direction.

Someday, we hope to add a “Mittens” (the name for the rabbit) to our horde, but for now, I’m going to focus on learning about the various fibers that are out there – specifically sheep, alpaca, and angora. Mohair goats are apparently starting to die out (nooo!), so getting all in love with them may not be the best idea. And camels seem like a lot of work for not much fiber, but perhaps an expedition into their realm of fiber-tasticness can be scheduled for later.

I will be moving to an area with a plethora of sheep and other livestock in July, and I hope to have the opportunity to visit (and perhaps even volunteer at) some working farms to start ‘learning the trade’. Better yet, maybe I could start a ‘Will-Work-For-Fiber’ operation…
